Unfortunately the Vintage Content for the most recent Model Fliers world was inadvertently left out. It is copied here for your perusal...

Notices of Motion/Remits for the Vintage AGM

Any Notices of Motion or Remits for the Vintage SIG AGM to be held at the 61st Nationals in Balclutha in December 2008 should be sent to the Vintage SIG Secretary at the address given in the SIG address list at the front of this MFW before the 27th July so that they may be considered by the SIG Committee and advertised in the September 2008 MFW.

The 61st Nationals in Balclutha

We trust all Vintage flyers are gearing up to get to these Nationals at Balclutha in December 2008/January 2009. A Nationals Programme is being prepared and at this stage it seems we may have combined style FF events with Vintage FF Precision and Catapult Glider, plus all the Vintage RC events, Precision, Duration, 1/2A and A Texaco. The dates and times are yet to be sorted out.

NDC Programme for 2009

A Draft NDC programme has been put forward for comment. It is proposed that the events will be similar to those current this year with the possible addition of RC 1/2A Texaco Scale and some Classic class events to the new rules. As usual some of the dates have needed to be shifted around the Easter period.

Round up of Vintage events

March 15th was the date for the 3rd Hamilton Vintage RC Meet for the Gil Couper Trophy. Held at Hamilton’s Collins Road site the support was slightly down on previous years with 13 entries in Precision and 10 in Duration. Entries were wide spread with fliers from Tualau, Tauranga, Thames, Rotorua , Whangarei and a good number from Hamilton. The meeting went well in good weather, the fliers getting through their flights in good time without any pressure completing the competition by mid afternoon.

Top prizes went to Al Wooster of Tauranga in Duration with his OS70FS powered Playboy, while John Ryan of Rotorua was the winner in Precision with his OS 25RC powered Simplex. Model designs were quite diverse with 11 different designs used, but once again Playboys featured in the top half of both evnts. New Vintage flier Duane Waugh of Hamilton impressed with his OS 40FP Lanzo Bomber, making 2nd place in Precision and 6th in Duration.

Thanks go to the Hamilton Club for the use of their fine venue, Gordon Meads Hamilton Club Captain for his assistance and Gil Couper of Gisborne for the sponsored Trophies and excellent prizes.

The Thames Blackfeet meet on April 12 and 13th started out well with a very good turnout on the Saturday. Fliers came from around the area and Auckland with a few from further afield. A good variation of models was on display and were regularly flown especially when the wind died down in the afternoon. One of the highlights was that some models of recently deceased vintage enthusiasts Roger Left and Henry Grocock were at the meeting courtesy of Steve Wade. Steve had Roger’s Powerhouse flying well but the Pacer built by Henry was left in the van as conditions were a little blustery for it this time. It was good to see the spirit of these “vintagents” being carried forward by their models. With a great range of vintage models on show it was a good day, unfortunately the Sunday was washed out with quite heavy rain at times.

The Thames group always put on a good show. This year we were able to drive right up to the pit area that was real bonus. Again the lunch, (and breakfast if you were inclined), were top class so thanks to the catering crew.

Late in April the Levin Club hosted the Bob Burling Memorial RC Vintage meet. All the RC Vintage events were flown with fliers from the local area competing along with visitor Frank Crowfoot from Thames. The most popular event was Precision where John Selby topped the 5 entries with his revamped Vespa model. John also had a new Brooklyn Dodger that he flew in Duration.

Full reports on these events are in issues 100 and 101 of the AVANZ News .
